Shapely cheeks can begin to descend as you age, causing deep facial folds, hollows beneath your eyes and an overall aged and tired appearance. To learn about our cheek lift procedure and other aesthetic facial surgery, please call Morgenstern Center for Orbital and Facial Plastic Surgery at 610.687.8771.
A cheek lift procedure has the ultimate goal of creating a youthful appearance by improving the fullness and projection of the cheeks.
When you are young, your face has volume. The fat in your cheeks creates a full facial shape with cheeks that project outward. When you grow older, the fat pads in your cheeks begin to descend, causing loss of volume and deep facial folds. The cheeks are no longer positioned perkily on the cheekbone, and the sagging skin and fat cause hollows and dark circles beneath your eyes.
Cheek lift candidates may be looking to rejuvenate:
By restoring youthful volume to the cheeks and under-eye area, you can look years younger. Cheeks can also be restored with dermal injections and soft-tissue fillers, although these treatments provide temporary results while surgical options produce results that can last many years.
“I did a lot of research before choosing a surgeon. I like and trust Dr. Morgenstern as he is artistic, he aims for a natural look and gives attention to detail. Dr. Morgenstern is a perfectionist.”
The main surgical way of performing a cheek lift is through a midface lift.
Like a face lift, the midface lift repositions fat and skin through small incisions along the hairline or near the ears. The fat pad is lifted and repositioned over the cheek bone. Sometimes the procedure is combined with lower eyelid surgery to create a more youthful eye area.
In certain cases, cheek implants or injectable soft-tissue fillers may be used to augment the cheek and create fullness. Sometimes a tear trough augmentation is necessary. A tear trough deformity causes deep hollows and dark circles beneath the eyes, and an implant or an injectable may be used to fill out this area. You and Dr. Morgenstern or Dr. Giacometti will discuss all of your cosmetic options for restoring youthful facial fullness and cheeks.
You may be a good candidate for cheek lift surgery if you are dissatisfied with:
Oftentimes these facial signs of aging are simply the result of getting older. There is not much you can do to avoid them. Other factors can contribute to loss of volume in the mid-face, such as weight fluctuations. If you have lost a lot of weight, some of it was probably carried in your face. The sudden loss in facial fat can cause the mid-face to sag. Sun exposure and smoking are two other factors that can cause volume loss and deep folds in your face.
As uniquely and extensively trained facial specialists, Dr. Morgenstern and Dr. Giacometti can evaluate your cosmetic facial goals as well as the physical characteristics of your face, and inform you of all of the options that can create the rejuvenated, youthful facial appearance you want.
The only way to know if you are a good candidate is to be evaluated by Dr. Morgenstern or Dr. Giacometti. Your consultation is dedicated time with the surgeon so you can discuss such factors as:
