When the area around your eyes begins to age, it can make you look more tired and older than you feel. Eyelid surgery returns the eye area to a more youthful appearance. Eyelid surgery is sometimes medically necessary if droopy upper eyelids or a sagging brow is interfering with your vision. When you consult with our Eyelid Surgeons in our Wayne office, they will guide you and evaluate whether your eyelid concerns need Aesthetic Surgery or Reconstructive Surgery. What is Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgery (also called "blepharoplasty") is a procedure to rejuvenate the area around the eyes. The procedure requires some preparation before your surgeon can perform it. This cosmetic procedure refreshes the eyelids by addressing:
- Drooping, puffy, baggy upper eyelids
- Sagging lower eyelids
- Bags under your eyes
- Fine lines beneath your eyes
- Dark Circles under the eyes
- Eyelid sagging that obscures vision
- Eyelid drooping the obscures the natural curve of the upper eyelid
If you feel like your eyes make you look tired, then Aesthetic eyelid surgery may be an effective way to restore a more alert, younger facial appearance. Blepharoplasty can be performed as upper eyelid surgery or lower eyelid surgery.
For women who have trouble applying eye makeup because of sagging eyelids, eyelid surgery can remove deposits of fat and restore a youthful upper eye contour. For men and women, eyelid surgery can make you look years younger while still looking natural. Women or men born without a crease on their upper eyelid may wish to consider double eyelid surgery.
Finding out if Eyelid Surgery is right for You
The best way to know if cosmetic surgery is right for you and your goals, expectations and health, is to visit our experienced oculoplastic surgeons Dr. Ken Morgenstern and Dr. Joseph Giacometti. Your consultation will be one-on-one with the surgeon. They spend this time with you to make sure you have all the information you need to decide about eyelid surgery. They will perform an assessment of your eyelids and determine if blepharoplasty is the right procedure for the outcome you desire.
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure, and as such it has certain risks and benefits, and requires time for recovery. These aspects and others will be discussed with you during your consultation. The results of eyelid surgery are long lasting, although you may experience a recurrence of sagging or fat deposits in the years down the road.
