Feeling like you look older and more tired than you feel can be devastating to your self-esteem and confidence.

If aging has caused bags and puffiness to appear beneath your eyes, then lower eyelid surgery can rejuvenate the eyelids to a younger, fresher appearance. To find out if you are a candidate for our Philadelphia lower eyelid surgery, please call the Morgenstern Center for Orbital and Facial Plastic Surgery at 610.687.8771.

Lower Blepharoplasty Before & Afters

Lower eyelid surgery restores a youthful eye appearance. You may benefit from a lower blepharoplasty if you have:

  • Bags beneath your eyes
  • Fines lines on the lower eyelid
  • Puffiness below the eyes
  • Excessive fat deposits beneath the eyes

Upper eyelid surgery may be combined with lower lid blepharoplasty, depending on your goals and other factors. In all cases, our experienced oculoplastic surgeons will achieve a natural looking result in which the lower and upper eyelids have a harmonious and balanced appearance, which may or may not require both upper and lower blepharoplasty.

During lower eyelid surgery Philadelphia facial surgeon Dr. Morgenstern will make and incision in either your lower lash line or on the inside of the lower eyelid, effectively hiding any scar. The incision location depends on what you and your surgeon plan to accomplish with the procedure. Oftentimes we combine this surgery with CO2 Laser Resurfacing to help tighten the skin of the lower lid. Although lower eyelid surgery is a fairly common procedure, it is important to choose a surgeon well qualified in performing surgeries around the eyes. For natural looking results, it is important that the surgeon remove the right amount of fat and skin without removing too much. Our eyelid surgeons are uniquely trained and experienced in facial and eye-area surgeries. Our goal is to give you the best lower eyelid surgery Philadelphia has to offer.

  • Eliminate sagging skin that generates folds or even impair your vision
  • Get rid of fatty deposits in the eyelids and a puffiness appearance
  • Disposes of bags under your eyes
  • Phases out drooping lower eyelids that can show white below the iris
  • Eliminates excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid

You may be a good candidate for a lower eyelid surgery if you are:

  • Unhappy with bags, puffiness and/or fine lines beneath your eyes
  • Interested in restoring a more youthful eye appearance
  • Ready to accept the risks, benefits and recovery time associated with the procedure

What Are the Risks?

Any plastic surgery procedure carries some degree of risks. Some of the risks involved with an eyelid surgery can include bad reaction to anesthesia, bleeding, bruising, infection, scarring, and swelling. During your consultation, the surgeon will discuss the risks and side effects associated with this surgery.

How is the Recovery?

You may feel some discomfort and pain after your surgery. Your surgeon can prescribe pain medication for relief. You can expect to experience some swelling, irritation or dry eyes for a few days. Your surgeon may cover your eyelids with gauze. Once at home, you can apply cold compresses to help with the pain and swelling. Most of the swelling should subside within two weeks. Your sutures will dissolve on their own or will be removed by your surgeon a few days after your surgery.

Your surgeon will inform you of any symptoms or signs to watch for during your recovery. If you experience any severe pain or notice a change in your vision, call our office immediately. You should be able to return to work and your normal activities within a few days after your procedure. However, you should avoid any strenuous exercises for a minimum of two weeks.

Philadelphia lower eyelid surgery patients will not be able to wear contact lenses or eye make up for the first two weeks following the procedure and should wear dark sunglasses to protect their eyes from sun and wind. It takes several weeks to fully recover from an eyelid surgery. The incision will be pinkish for a few months but fades over time to the point where it becomes barely visible and unnoticeable by other people. In fact, you will look rejuvenated and not so tired.
