Ptosis

Ptosis is the medical term for drooping of the upper eyelid.  There are several causes of drooping eyelids.  The most common occurs as we age.  The tendon that attaches the eyelid to the muscle responsible for elevating it stretches causing the eyelid to fall.  Ptosis may be mild, in which the lid partially covers the pupil, or ptosis may be severe, in which the lid completely covers the pupil.

Ptosis surgery involves the tightening of the muscle responsible for elevating the eyelid.  There are several techniques available and the appropriate one will be discussed during your consultation with Dr. Morgenstern.

There is minimal discomfort after surgery.  Minor bruising and swelling may be expected after surgery, which should subside in one to two weeks.
