Facelift
What is a Face Lift?
Over time and with the help of gravity, our skin begins to wrinkle and sag. Some of the more bothersome changes are in the laxity of the jowls and neck. New techniques used in performing Face Lift procedures can improve these natural changes while eliminating the “over tight” or “wind blown” look seen with older techniques. There are several types of Face Lifting procedures. Your cosmetic consultation will address these and help you choose the right one for you. These procedures are often combined with other procedures such as endoscopic forehead lifts and eyelid lifts to achieve the best and most natural look that will last for years.
What is the Procedure?
A Face Lift will address the middle to lower third of the face and neck and can be performed as an outpatient procedure.
An incision is made in front of the ears one side at a time. The skin is lifted and your surgeon tightens and repositions the underlying tissues. The skin is then closed using very fine sutures. Depending on the type of Face Lifting procedure that is performed, occasionally drains will be placed together with a secure dressing, both of which will be removed the next day. Sutures are usually removed within 7-10 days and swelling and bruising usually subsides over the next several weeks. Discomfort of the surgery can be managed with pain medication that can be taken by mouth.
After surgery
There is minimal discomfort after the surgery. Any pain can be managed by oral pain medication. Occasional patients may experience a mild headache for the first 24 hours. You will go home with a head dressing which can be removed in 4 -5 days. Any sutures will be removed in 2 weeks and any bruising or swelling should resolve within 7-10 days.
Results
Our goal for you is to achieve a healthier and a more well-rested look for your age. After surgery the aging process continues and the lifestyle you lead as well as your innate bone structure and skin type as well as past environmental exposures will all play a role in how long your results will last.
